Job Purpose:

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for all aspects of recruiting, engaging, scheduling and building long-lasting relationships with thousands of packaging and support volunteers. This important role promotes volunteer opportunities at upcoming events and weekly meal packaging shifts to encourage the public to help our community fight hunger.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting, training and supervising new volunteers.
  • Collecting volunteer information, availability and skills and maintaining an up-to-date database.
  • Working with marketing to utilize tools such as newsletters, social media, emails and databases.
  • Keeping new and existing volunteers informed about the organization and volunteer opportunities.
  • Matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skill sets and ensuring they understand their responsibilities and receive the proper training.
  • Conduct volunteer training.
  • Keeping schedules and records of volunteers’ work.
  • Preparing and updating the volunteer handbook.
  • Conducting a yearly survey to core volunteers to measure satisfaction levels.
  • Plan a yearly Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.
  • Work collaboratively and closely with the Leadership Team to develop and implement quarterly goals and attend weekly meetings.
  • Embrace the MFTH mission, vision and values and promote in all interactions.
  • Encourage and model good collaboration and communications with MFTH staff, board, volunteers and donors.
  • Other management and administrative tasks as assigned.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

  • Competence in standard word-processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and team building skills.
  • Active participation in the community through volunteering and as a member of Volunteer Managers of Central Iowa.
  • College degree with focus in communications, event planning, and/or marketing, or proven work experience.

Accountability and Evaluation:

This position is supervised by the Executive Director. A job review is conducted annually.

Hours/week: 40 per week. Evening and weekend hours, as required. Seasonally, during peak periods, additional hours may be required and/or available.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
